Getting to Know the Sales and Marketing Director at Charter Senior Living of Fox Hollow
There are people who can tell you what makes a senior living community special. And then there are people who have experienced it firsthand.
For Robin Hutchings, Sales and Marketing Director at Charter Senior Living of Fox Hollow, that distinction means everything. Her connection to Fox Hollow began long before she officially joined the team in 2016. Over the years, it has become not only the place where she built her career in senior living, but also the community she ultimately chose for her own mother.
We sat down with Robin to talk about her personal journey, what keeps her at Fox Hollow, and what she hopes every family feels when they walk through the doors.
Q: Your career didn’t originally start in senior living. How did your journey bring you to Fox Hollow?
Robin: My career began with a construction company, where I worked as an office manager and accountant for 20 years. After that, I returned to school and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources. Following graduation, I became the director of human resources for ManorCare Skilled Nursing in Pinehurst, where I spent 10 years.
During my time there, I discovered how much I enjoyed hearing residents’ stories and getting to know them and their families. That experience inspired me to shift my career path toward senior living. When the opportunity at Fox Hollow became available, I knew it was the right fit, and I was proud to join the Fox Hollow team in 2016.
Q: You were familiar with Fox Hollow even before you started working here. What made you fall in love with the community?
Robin: Charter Senior Living of Fox Hollow has always held a special place in my heart. Even before I joined this wonderful team, many members of my church community, as well as my aunt, called Fox Hollow home.
What first drew me here was the genuine care and compassion I saw from the team. Residents are cared for the way you would care for your own loved one, and that has always stood out to me. It is also why, when the time came for my mother to move to Assisted Living, I chose Fox Hollow for her. The love shown to our residents is truly outstanding, and that is what has kept me here.
Q: Fox Hollow transitioned to become part of the Charter Senior Living family from Five Star. What has that evolution been like?
Robin: There are many similarities between the two companies, especially the shared belief that great customer service is one of the most important things we provide. What stands out to me about Charter Senior Living is that they take it a step further by encouraging us to have fun while doing it.
Our mission to enhance the human spirit of our residents’ lives gives us the opportunity to grow and learn as well. Our residents have so much knowledge and wisdom to share, and in many ways, they enhance our spirits just as much as we strive to enhance theirs.
Q: For families who may still know Fox Hollow by its former name, what would you want them to know about the community today as part of Charter Senior Living?
Robin: We are still the same caring community families have always known – only better. The dedicated team members who helped make Fox Hollow special are still here, providing the same compassionate care. Our food continues to be wonderful, our activities remain exceptional and the lifestyle our residents enjoy is happy, engaging and carefree. As part of Charter Senior Living, Fox Hollow continues to build on its strong foundation while offering an even greater experience for residents and families.
Q: What are some of the positive changes or opportunities you’ve seen since Fox Hollow became part of Charter Senior Living?
Robin: One of the proactive changes I have enjoyed most is the monthly themes and events. They bring so much fun and energy to the community, and they are even more meaningful because they include residents, families, friends and the greater community. These moments give us more opportunities to spend quality time with residents, which is always worthwhile and truly rewarding.
Q: What does being part of Charter Senior Living mean for Fox Hollow’s residents and their families?
Robin: It means peace of mind. Our team is here to provide residents and families with the support, compassion and reassurance they need. We are a senior living community that focuses on the whole person, giving residents the space to be who they are while also offering a helping hand whenever it is needed. For families, that means knowing their loved ones are cared for, supported and truly valued.
Q: You’ve had the opportunity to get to know many residents and families over the years. Is there a particular resident, family or experience that captures what makes Fox Hollow special to you?
Robin: There have been so many residents and families who have captured my heart over the years that it is difficult to choose just one. However, one resident especially comes to mind. While I worked in skilled nursing, she lived there for four years before “graduating” to Assisted Living at Fox Hollow shortly before I joined the team here. When I started at Fox Hollow, she was so excited to see me and warmly welcomed me to her new home. Ten years later, she is still thriving here.
She loves sharing her experience with prospective residents and often talks about how much she enjoys living at Fox Hollow. The pride she has in her home and community is truly inspiring. Seeing residents happy, engaged and proud of where they live is exactly why I do what I do. Her story is a wonderful example of what makes Fox Hollow such a special place.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role in helping older adults and their families navigate the decision to move to senior living?
Robin: At my core, I am an educator. I love helping older adults and their families navigate what is often one of the most difficult decisions they will ever make and providing them with the information and tools they need to choose the option that is right for them. I enjoy being a trusted resource and guide during that journey.
I understand that Fox Hollow is not the perfect fit for everyone, and that’s okay. My goal is always to help families make the best decision for their unique situations. I’ve found that when you genuinely put people first, it always comes back to you in some way. Knowing that I’ve helped a family find clarity, confidence and the right path forward is incredibly rewarding and is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
Q: What do you hope families feel when they meet you and experience Fox Hollow for the first time?
Robin: More than anything, I hope families feel my passion for this community. I truly love the residents who call Fox Hollow home and the dedicated team members who serve them every day. I believe wholeheartedly in what we offer and in the personalized care and support we provide to each individual. I want every person who walks through our doors to feel welcomed, valued and embraced from the moment they arrive.
Moving to senior living can be emotional and overwhelming. My goal is to help families feel comfortable, supported and confident that they have found a community that genuinely cares. If they leave feeling a sense of warmth, trust and belonging, then I know we have made a meaningful first impression.
